At noon, on July 16th, 2009, Meeting of 15th anniversary of the foundation of China Charity Federation and Commending Conference for the prize of Outstanding Contribution to China Charity Cause is held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing ceremoniously. Leaders involving Li Jianguo，vice chairman of Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, Zheng Wantong, vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, He Luli, former vice-chairman of Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, Wang Wenyuan, former vice-chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Li Liguo, deputy secretary of China Ministry of Party Group of China Ministry of Civil Affairs and vice minister, Dou Yupei, vice minister of China Ministry of Civil Affairs, Sun Huaishan, deputy secretary-general of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Fan Baojun, president of China Charity Federation, Li Bengong, Peng Yu, Deng Tongshan, Zhang Daocheng, Zhu Xi, vice-presidents of China Charity Federation, Liu Guolin, secretary-general, Wu Dansheng, president of the Paper of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Liu Yingbing, vice-president of the Paper of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and over 800 delegates of Charity organizations, enterprises, figures and media around the country, attend the conference. Fan Baojun, president of China Charity Federation, makes a keynote address. And Li Liguo, deputy secretary of China Ministry of Party Group of China Ministry of Civil Affairs and vice minister, delivers a ebullient speech and fully affirms the achievements of China Charity Federation for the past 15 years and expresses the hopes and requirements on the development of China Charity Cause.
China Charity Federation was established in 1994, which is the first distinct national charity organization named after Charity since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949. And under the leadership of Communist Party of China and Government and the support from all circles of society, as a national charity organization, it propagates its charity view and launches charity projects so as to push forward with the development of local charity cause domestically, and strengthens international exchanges and cooperation in order to contribute to the development of modern charity cause in China. Therefore, China Charity Federation has raised a total of about 10 billion RMB and started dozens of charity projects in 8 aspects including disaster relief, poverty alleviation, caring for the old, helping orphans, being a teacher in remote and poor area, supporting the schooling, helping the disabled and providing with Medicare so as to help tens of millions of people in poverty and need through various kinds of social relief.
At present, China Charity Federation has 273 group members which are scattered in all provinces and municipalities and have formed the basic network of charity work preliminarily. And in terms of international exchanges, it strives to broaden and strengthen the channel of donations and to establish the international exchanges platform of charity cause to start exchanges and cooperation with related international organizations and charity institutions and in 1998, it joined in the United Way International as the only member on the mainland.
Fan Baojun, president of China Charity Federation, when he sums up the experience of China Charity Federation for the past 15 years, highlights that the profound charity culture is the propeller of the development of charity cause; superior credibility is the root of survival of charity cause; division and cooperation is the inevitable trend of the development of charity cause.
In order to encourage the advanced and set an example so as to appeal more people to participate in charity cause and contribute to construction of harmonious society, China Charity Federation starts the third commending conference of “Prize for China Charity Prominent Contribution” that emphasizes on honoring those including the loving-care figures and enterprises (involving oversea Chinese and people of china origin and foreign companies in china) especially in fighting against the disaster of freezing rain and snow and 5.12 earthquake relief, and the advanced charity organizations and workers, the charity projects with superior social benefit, the charity volunteers who participate in charity cause and have great achievement for a long time as well etc. since 1997.
Until June 2nd, China Charity Federation receives over 1,800 recommending material from kinds of group organizations on which jury committee has a serious review and check through several appraisal meetings and publishes the primary results on CPPCC Paper and Charity Weekly and China Charity Website. And then the committee listens to the suggestions from all circle of society and decides to confer “Prize for China Charity Prominent Contribution Figure” on 208 individuals, “Prize for China Charity Prominent Contribution Organizations (Enterprises)” on 215 organizations (Enterprises), “Prize for China Charity Prominent Contribution Projects” on 105 projects, “Prize for China Charity Advanced Institutions” on 95 institutions, “Prize for China Charity Superior Workers (Volunteers)” on 152 charity workers (volunteers).
China Charity Federation hopes that this commending conference inspires the passion of all circles of society and strengthens the social responsibility of various kinds of organization and individuals and enhances the recognition and understanding of charity cause of the public and constructs a better atmosphere that the public cares and participates in the charity cause so as to push forward with the development of China charity cause faster and healthier.
